When starting Suricata with pfring and being compiled with profiling enabled:

 LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/pfring/lib suricata --pfring-int=eth3 \
 --pfring-cluster-id=99 --pfring-cluster-type=cluster_flow \
 -c /etc/suricata/peter-yaml/suricata-pfring.yaml -D

and then after that killing gracefully Suricata:

kill -15 `pgrep Suricata`

Suricata is always much slower to "dump profiling" data and exit than when it is used with afpacket. (5-6 times slower, resulting in a 1 minute wait usually on heavy traffic)

kill -9 `pgrep Suricata`

does not have the same issues.

I am not sure if this is 100% bug, but there is a big discrepancy between afpacket, hence the bug report here.

I can share all the available info and log files if needed/required.

When you disable profiling, does it exit quickly? Or does it take a long time then as well?

It is abit quicker ... but I don't think profiling is the problem :

The above is in daemon mode - started as previously explained in the bug report.
In this case the problem is with thread number 6 ...but that is just in this case. I think pfring has that problem in general under high traffic.

So the problem might be (my wild speculation), that when profiling is enabled , we have high traffic and pfring is used - it is "killing" the engine but the "profiling" still waiting for feedback and that could take a while before the whole process is done/finished/killed.
